Outrank has grown significantly in recent years. We’ve expanded our team, invested in technology and strengthened the leadership, systems and processes that support our business.
But growth alone isn’t the objective. We want to build a business that delivers for its customers, creates opportunities for its people, contributes positively to its communities and operates responsibly.
Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) approach brings those responsibilities together.
We don’t claim to have every element of ESG figured out. Our approach is to be transparent about where we are today, evidence what we already do and build greater measurement and accountability as we grow.
Responsibility for ESG ultimately sits with The Board.
As a digital business, our environmental impact is primarily associated with our offices, people, travel and the technology and infrastructure used to deliver our services.
We focus on making responsible choices where we can while improving our understanding of that impact.
The majority of websites hosted by Outrank use infrastructure provided by 20i. Environmental performance and energy efficiency are increasingly important considerations when choosing the technology and infrastructure partners that support our business and customers.
Members of our team have undertaken Carbon Literacy training, helping improve environmental awareness and decision-making across the business.
Our hybrid working model and digital-first approach to meetings can help reduce unnecessary commuting and business travel, while recycling and responsible waste-management processes operate across our workplace.
We have not yet established a formal carbon emissions baseline and do not claim to be carbon neutral or net zero.
Establishing our first meaningful environmental baseline forms part of our 2027 ESG priorities. This will give us the evidence needed to identify practical improvements before considering appropriate longer-term reduction targets.
Our people are fundamental to Outrank, and protecting our culture as the business grows remains a priority.
We invest in professional development, internal progression and leadership development, with the aim of creating careers rather than simply jobs.
Recognised Workplace Excellence
Outrank is a Real Living Wage Employer, and our workplace culture has received independent recognition through Great Place to Work and The Sunday Times Best Places to Work, including recognition across wellbeing, development and women in the workplace.
Our people-first culture has been independently recognised through:
Development and Wellbeing
We invest in professional development, leadership training and wellbeing initiatives to support long-term careers, not short-term roles.
We believe businesses benefit from people who think, communicate and approach problems differently.
Our relationship with Daisy Chain, a North East charity supporting autistic and neurodivergent people and their families, goes beyond charitable giving. Alongside providing pro bono digital support, the relationship continues to develop our understanding of neurodiversity and inclusive working.
We recognise that inclusion is an ongoing commitment and will continue developing our approach as Outrank grows.
Outrank was built in the North East, and we believe a successful business should make a positive contribution to the communities around it.
We support charities, community organisations and grassroots sport through fundraising, sponsorship, financial contributions, pro bono professional services and the skills of our team.
Our community contribution exceeded £50,000 during 2025-26, with support for organisations including Teesside Hospice, Daisy Chain, My Sister’s Place, MFC Foundation, Mark Solan Charity and Age UK, alongside grassroots football, rugby and cricket.
Our wider Corporate Social Responsibility programme provides more information about the organisations and initiatives we support.
As Outrank has grown, we have deliberately strengthened the governance, leadership, systems and processes around the business so that our standards develop alongside our scale.
Outrank operates with an established Board of Directors, supported by non-executive input and external challenge.
Regular Board oversight is supported by defined leadership responsibilities, departmental accountability, performance reporting and documented operational processes.
Our approach is supported by recognised external standards and commitments including:
We believe responsible business also means treating customers fairly, communicating transparently and protecting the information entrusted to us.
Outrank is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, with established processes around data protection, privacy and information management.
As our data, platforms and technology capabilities develop, the governance around them will continue to develop too.
Technology and artificial intelligence are increasingly embedded within Outrank and the services we deliver.
We use technology and automation to improve efficiency, consistency, analysis and quality, while continuing to invest in proprietary systems that increase what our people can achieve.
Our principle is simple:
Our developing approach to responsible AI is centred around four principles:
Formalising these principles into a Responsible AI framework forms part of our ongoing governance programme.
We believe credibility comes from honesty, not over-claiming.
From 2026, Outrank will introduce an annual ESG review, aligned to our growth and operational maturity. This review will track progress across environmental impact, social initiatives and governance practices, and will evolve as the business scales
The next stage of our ESG journey is about improving measurement and formalising areas that are already developing across Outrank.
Establish our first environmental baseline to better understand the carbon and environmental impact of our operations and digital infrastructure.
Identify practical improvements before determining appropriate longer-term environmental targets.
Develop our approach to neurodiversity and inclusion, continuing to learn from our people and organisations such as Daisy Chain.
Continue measuring our wider social impact, including community investment, employee development, wellbeing and progression.
Formalise our Responsible AI framework and continue strengthening governance around data and technology.
Introduce an annual Board-level ESG review, providing greater accountability for our progress and future priorities.
Our ESG framework and CSR programme are closely connected but serve different purposes.
CSR focuses on the contribution we make beyond Outrank through charities, communities, sponsorship and good causes.
ESG looks at how Outrank itself is built and operated responsibly — covering our environmental impact, people, customers, technology, data and governance.
Together, they provide a more complete picture of the business we are building.
For us, responsible growth isn’t about making claims we can’t support.
It’s about treating people well, supporting our communities, protecting the information entrusted to us, using technology responsibly and putting appropriate governance behind our growth.
As Outrank continues to evolve, we expect our standards to evolve with it.
