The official launch of This is Tees Valley magazine took place last week, shining a spotlight on the ambition, talent, and innovation that continues to make our region thrive.
Hosted at Teesside University’s new Digital Life building, the event brought together business leaders, creative thinkers, and changemakers from across the Tees Valley. The setting itself – modern, forward-looking, and rooted in technology, reflected the themes of the day: growth, collaboration, and a bold vision for the future.
Outrank’s Role in the Day
We were proud to not only sponsor the launch but also play an active role in shaping the conversation.
- Francesca Kosina, our Operations Director and a finalist in the shortlist for Tees Businesswoman of the Year, joined the panel to share her insights on regional innovation and opportunity.
- Helen Staples, our Sales Director, took to the stage to introduce Outrank – highlighting who we are, what drives us, and how we’re contributing to the region’s business growth.
Insights from Francesca Kosina
Francesca’s contribution to the discussion struck a chord with many in the audience. Speaking about the natural strengths of people across Tees Valley, she said:
“Teessiders have a natural skillset to be able to problem solve and innovate.”
She also explained how digital transformation has accelerated the region’s ability to compete with larger UK hubs:
“We’ve gone through a huge digital transformation to provide incredible talent that can be brought into businesses. And it’s still comparatively more affordable to be able to operate here, even compared to Newcastle and Leeds.”
Looking to the future, Francesca highlighted the need to nurture the next generation of talent by working closely with schools and institutions:
“It’s important to work closely with all institutions, including secondary schools, to signpost the type of tech careers now available, ensuring young people don’t have to leave Tees Valley to get a tech career.”
Her perspective underlined the region’s strength: a mix of innovation, affordability, and a strong community dedicated to collaboration and skills development.
Teesside’s Growing Industries
The launch of This is Tees Valley magazine provided the perfect platform to celebrate the industries’ driving growth across the region.
Teesside has long been recognised for its industrial strength, and today it is diversifying at pace. The rise of digital and tech businesses is transforming opportunities, from start-ups to established enterprises. With initiatives such as the Digital Life building and continued investment in digital skills, the region is increasingly being seen as a hub for innovation.
At the same time, Teesside is leading in green energy and sustainability, with projects that place the region at the forefront of the UK’s transition to net zero. Advanced manufacturing, logistics, and creative industries are also thriving, creating an ecosystem where businesses can collaborate, innovate, and grow together.
What makes Teesside unique is not just its industrial history, but its ability to adapt and move forward. Affordable operating costs compared to nearby cities, combined with access to world-class talent and a supportive business community, make the region an attractive location for companies looking to grow.
Collaboration at the Heart
The event also showcased the importance of working together. Alongside Francesca, panellists including Kirsten Donkin (Double Eleven), Imran Anwar (Alt Labs), and Helen Stewart (Colewood Digital) shared their insights on growth, challenges, and opportunities.
The second panel added further value, discussing how the region can continue to build on its strengths and inspire the next generation. Together, the conversations reinforced that collaboration is at the heart of Teesside’s progress.
Looking Ahead
The energy in the room reflected everything that Teesside represents: innovation, resilience, and ambition. With industries growing, talent developing, and opportunities expanding, the region is well-placed to stand out on both a national and international stage.
At Outrank, we’re proud to play our part in that journey. From joining the North East Chamber of Commerce ecosystem to champion local business collaboration, to being recognised for our values and culture through continued Good Business Charter accreditation, our impact goes beyond digital growth.
We’re also celebrating national recognition, having been named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces 2025, one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work, and winning Small Business of the Year at the Tees Business Awards 2025. These achievements highlight our commitment not only to driving results for our clients, but also to supporting our people, strengthening our community, and helping shape the future of business in the Tees Valley.
The launch of This is Tees Valley magazine was a reminder of just how much this region has to offer – and we’re excited to continue playing our role in helping it grow.
